What is Solo & Ensemble?

  • Solo & Ensemble is an opportunity for individual students or small groups to perform a selection of their choice for adjudication.

How is Solo & Ensemble Scored?

  • Each student or group of students is evaluated by one judge and rated on a scale of 1 to 3 with 1 being the highest rating possible. Students or groups that earn a rating of 1 (or "Superior") receive a medal and are qualified for placement in Spring Show which is held in May.

What are the requirements for Solo & Ensemble?

  • Students may choose a piece of their choice to perform for the judge.
    • If they wish to be considered for a spot in the Spring Show, they need to choose a song that goes with the theme of the show.
    • If they DO NOT wish to be considered for a spot in the Spring Show, they need to choose a song from one of the Folk Song or Art Song books in the Choir Room. (Please ask Ms. Starkey for help in choosing an appropriate song.)

Steps to complete by March 1st:

  • Fill out the entry form (above)

  • Turn in Sheet Music to Ms. Starkey

  • Turn in accompaniment track to Ms. Starkey (or bring own accompanist/accompany yourself)

Info for the Contest:

  • Students may sign up for a MAXIMUM of 2 slots (solos and/or ensembles).

  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes earlier than your scheduled time in case we are running ahead.

  • Come warmed up and ready to sing, as singing will not be permitted in the building.

  • Once arriving, students need to wait in the small band hall until you are "on deck" (the next person to audition).

  • Each singer will be with the judge for approximately 5 minutes.

  • After singing, students are permitted to leave.

  • Parents are not allowed in the audition room, but can wait for their child in the small band hall.
